<aside> ▪️ History of EAHK

EA Hong Kong was started in 2015 by Brian Tse. Brian first came to know about EA during exchange at Harvard, and decided to bring this idea back to Hong Kong. He gathered 6 friends to form the first core team. In 2016, the EAHK team ran EAGxHK, the first EAGx in Asia.

Hong Kong’s EA community is a mix of university students and working professionals. There is a mix of local Hong Kongers, mainland Chinese transplants, and expats.

The majority has historically been university students as it was started by a group of undergrads, and the proportion of local Hong Kongers has historically been small. But in 2022, there is a trend of an increasing number of working people and local Hong Kongers.

The path for community members has often been either to pursue Earning to Give or leave Hong Kong to join EA-aligned organisations/projects overseas. However, we are working to increase the number of EA-related opportunities within Hong Kong.
